Step #1. Check to see if you have Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) |
| a. | Internet Explorer version 7 is an upgrade available to users of Windows XP and should come included with Windows Vista. It should have been installed during Windows XP automatic updates. We believe that FireFox and Opera are better and more secure internet browsers (less chance of being interferred with by virus, malware, etc.) and would recommend that you use either one as your default browser instead of IE7. But, we do recognise that IE is the most popular browser and that version 7 is an upgrade on version 6. IE7 only works on Windows XP or Vista .. it will not work on Windows 95, 98, ME or 2000. If you are using Windows 98, ME or 2000, you are best to use FireFox (versions also available for Mac and Linux) or Opera (versions available for Windows 98, ME, 2000, Mac OS 9, OS X, Linux, Solaris, and others). You can check to see if version 7 is installed by following these steps. |
| b. | Launch Internet Explorer from the Start bar or some other shortcut that may be on your desktop or shortcuts bar. When IE7 launches, it should look something like this: |

| c. | Go to the Help menu and choose About Internet Explorer like this: |
![]() |
| d. | A window will open showing the version number. That window should look something like this: |

| e. | If the about window looks like this indicating that you have IE7 installed already, then proceed to Step 3. |
Step #2. Downloading Internet Explorer 7 |
| a. | Using what ever internet browers you currently have (ie. Internet Explorer 6, etc.), go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/. The page will look something like: |
![]() |
| Scroll down that page. Near the bottom left you will see the download button to start the download. | |
![]() |
| c. | Select Download. You will now likely be taken through a Validation process. Microsoft wants to be sure that you have a valid and legitamate copy of Windows XP or Vista installed in your system and so it is going to check your system (BTW, this is something that Apple does not do and is part of making the Apple Macintosh a more private system). Once it has gone through the Validation process, the file should start downloading. It may ask you if you like to Open or Run the program or if you'd like to Save it. If you have the opportunity to Open or Run it then do so. If the only choice is to save the file then save it to your desktop so you can find it easily. |
| d. | If you selected Open or Run, then when the program is done downloading, it should start the Internet Explorer 7 Installation program. Follow the prompts until IE7 is completely installed. If the file was Saved to your desktop, then find a file that starts with the name "IE7". Find that file and double-click it to start the installation. |
| e. |
When the IE7 installer program is done, IE7 should now be completely installed. You can verify as noted in Step #1.
